This has to be one of the most asked questions when it comes to Eastenders. It has a tube station, it has a borough (Borough of Walford), it has real streets… But is Albert Square a real place in London?
Although the physical streets and buildings exists, Albert Square and the Borough of Walford are not real places in London. They are actually a purpose built filming set located at the BBC’s Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.
Interactive Map below – You will find the external set to the left of the studio buildings.
Most of the external buildings are empty inside. Nearly all scenes filmed inside the buildings is actually done inside the studio itself (The metal buildings in the screenshot above). This allows for better filming as in the studio walls can be taken away to get the best filming angles.
