So last week I got the opportunity with work to visit San Diego, California with a couple of colleagues. Flying into Los Angeles (LAX) we drove the 120 miles from LA to San Diego. Arriving into San Diego on Saturday evening we checked into the Double Tree, Del Mar. The 12 hour flight from London plus the 3 hour drive and 8 hour time difference wiped us out. Needless to say it wasn’t a late night that night.
Work was the main focus of the week but we did get to see a little of San Diego. Out of what we saw here are my recommendations.
Balboa park is not only home of the world famous San Diego Zoo, but it also has a wide number of attractions including a Space Museum, Sports Centre and a selection of outdoor theatres. It is a nice scenic walk with some great views over downtown San Diego. There is plenty of parking at the park and some wide open spaces to play games. Its seems the go to park for dog walking in the area.
San Diego by Scooter
San Diego is a big place so to make getting around a little easier we hired some scooters and took a ride through Downtown San Diego and along the coast. Sand Diego has a great coastline with many must see’s including the US Aircraft Carrier, The Medway and a number of memorials.
If you are wanting a few drinks or a nice meal, there is a great selection of restaurants and bars on 5th Avenue. We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Searsucker. A great selection of food at a reasonable price with a choice of eating inside or out. However, if the menu is not for you there is a huge choice of establishments in this area.
La Jolla, San Diego
A little further around the coast and you will reach the beautiful area of La Jolla. La Jolla offers a beautiful beach, coastline and wildlife as well as a lovely shopping district. The beach attracts various wildlife including pelicans and seals. It is a great place to chill with the family, get a tan or relax with a beer.
