San Diego, California

In the early part of 2019 while working in Customer Success for a US based startup, I spent some time working in San Diego, California. It was great to be able to spend time with so many passionate, intelligent and experienced individuals who have worked for some great start-ups and software businesses.

The majority of my time was spent in the office or back in the hotel, but I did get to spend a little bit of time exploring San Diego and Los Angeles. (Additionally, I would 100% recommend the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton, on Del Mar.)

San Diego

On day one, my colleagues introduced me to the best way to get around San Diego. That was, utilizing one of the many electric scooters available to hire at the click of an app, located all over the city.

These scooters are amazing. They are so easy to use, quick and cheap. When you need to get somewhere simply open the app to find the nearest scooter, scan the QR code to unlock, and away you go. Such a great way to explore a new city and cover a lot of ground.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the time for a visit to the world famous San Diego Zoo. However, I did manage to check out a few sites including the city, Coast, La Jolla, USS Midway, San Diego Air and Space Museum, Downtown Organ Pavillion, Del Mar and Balboa Park. In addition, we checked out a number of the citys restaurants and bars. I have added some photos to the gallery below.

Los Angeles

The time I was able to spend in LA was limited to only a few hours. I did manage to find time though to have a meal with two colleagues in Manhattan Beach, as well as a drive through some of the notorious neighbourhoods in the city. Including Crenshaw, Inglewood, Hawthorne, West Carson and Compton. I have added the small number of photos I took in LA below.

I learnt so much during my time in California, most importantly I made some amazing friends. From what I saw, both cities have a lot to offer, similarly so does the surrounding areas.
