BBC Goodnight Sweetheart Filming Locations

Goodnight Sweetheart originally aired on BBC1 between 1993 and 1999 and spread over 6 series. The sitcom starred Nicholas Lyndhurst as the time travelling Gary Sparrow who was able to travel between present day London and worn torn London during World War 2. The show also starred Victor McGuire and Christopher Ettridge. The majority of filming for the sitcom took place inside a London studio. However, there were a number of iconic scenes filmed on location, mainly in East London. Below are some of the BBC Goodnight Sweetheart Filming Locations that were used.

The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak in Bethnal Green, London was used as the exterior of The Royal Oak in the sitcolm. Still to this day the exterior of the pub has not changed much since the original filming took place. The internal shots were filmed in a London Studio.

Duckett’s Passage

Just behind The Royal Oak in Bethnal Green was the passage way that was used as Ducketts passage. The black gate in the wall doubled as the exterior to a shop in the original series.

Blitz & Pieces

During Series 3 Gary Sparrow set up a memorabillia shop known as Blitz and Pieces. Gary had to give up his job as a TV repair man as he was caught behind the wheel and lost his license. The external shots of the shop were filmed on Pitfield Street, Islington. This is currently occupied by V.B. Stores.

Despite the show being canelled after 6 series in 1999, it was brought back for a special episode in 2016. The BBC has confirmed it has no intention to revive the series but there has been talk of another channel picking up the sitcom.
